**Day 178**

My first 5K race is only 24 days away, and, to be honest, I'm very nervous about it!  I don't think I'm going to be able to run the whole thing without stopping, which I really wanted to be able to do, but I'm just not there yet.   I guess, I have to be okay with that.  I will run as much of it as I can, but when I need to walk I will.

My run tonight was....well, not much of a run.  I felt like crap, and I started walking after about 6 minutes.  I don't know what was going on....maybe I was just tired, maybe it's because I started my period today, maybe it was too hot, or maybe I'm just making excuses!  I just didn't have it in me to run tonight - physically or mentally. So, I ran for 6 minutes, and then I walked for 25 minutes - even the walking was a killer for me.  And by the time I got home my fingers, toes, and ankles were  so swollen.  Check out my fingers:

Trust me - they don't usually look like this!  Oh my gosh, they hurt so bad!  But I've been drinking water since I got back from my walk, and the swelling has gone down, a little.  I didn't get any other exercise in today - I should have, but I didn't.  I will do better tomorrow!

  1. OMG...your fingers!!!!!! What the heck?! Please have that looked at with the doctor. That makes me nervous. :(

As for "not feeling it," that's perfectly fine. It happens to all of us. Sometimes, we just don't have it in us. And, yet, you still persisted with walking. You could have thrown your hands up in the air and quit altogether. But you didn't! You are awesome!

As for your 5K, don't fret. You do what you can do. It's your first big challenge for yourself. However it goes down, whether you run the whole thing or have to walk/run it, you're still DOING it instead of sitting on the couch and watching TV. Plus, Bitchcakes always says: Just do it. You're one step ahead of many just by doing it...however it goes down. ;)

  2. Theres no rule that says you have to run the full 5K! I was so disappointed in myself after I only ran for 5 mins in my very first 5K. I gave up and said never again. (that was last year) BUT, I finally realized (this summer) that ITS OK!!! So each 5K I run, I set a new goal. My first goal was to run for 10 mins, and then do intervals for the remainder. With each 5K I do, I increase my initail run time. I just did one, and my goal was 15 mins, but I actually made it to 20. I was so excited!! AND sometimes our body tells us NOT TODAY, and dont think to yourself that youre just making excuses! There are days our body knows more than our mind! :) Youre doing a great job!!! Keep plugging away, and it'll come!!

  4. BTW, Deb, I just realized you have been blogging, regularly! I have your blog bookmarked, and I've been clicking on it, and even refreshing it, but it just kept staying on a May post, so I didn't think you'd been posting! Anyway, I'm off to your blog to catch up!!
